Spinal Disc Herniation Treatment

+ More
  • Spinal discs are connected to the vertebrae in the spine, separating each of the vertebrae and acting as a cushion to absorb shock and protect the vertebrae and nerves. The discs have a soft interior filled with a gel-like fluid, which is covered with a harder exterior. A herniated disc, also known as a slipped disc, occurs when the disc's exterior becomes damaged which enables the soft interior to push its way out of the disc. This applies pressure on the nerves and spinal cord, which can cause pain in the back, neck, legs, arms, or buttocks.

I was very frustrated with my experience. I was quoted liposuction on my abdomen back flank hips thighs and knees and thought it was a good price, and worth traveling for. The driver was excellent who picked us up from the airport to drive us to the hospital. The patient coordinator was very nice and communicated well. They did a good job setting me up with nurses who spoke English. I showed up at 11 a.m. having not eaten anything since the night before because they told me not to. The surgeon came and looked at me very quickly around 4pm and told me he wouldn't be able to do my thighs because it would be a risk for blood clots. I was very upset because they should have known this before I came all that way and already paid the money. I ended up not going back to surgery until 7 p.m. The surgeon had been doing surgeries all day long and it appeared they just squeezed me in instead of actually having me scheduled. I was worried I wouldn't get a good job because the surgeon surely was tired. I was right. Even the areas that he circled on the backs of my thighs before I went under anesthesia or not done. All he did was liposuction on my abdomen and my back and a very poor job on the back of my arms that I will now have to have fixed. They put us up in a nice hotel and stayed in communication with us and I appreciated that. However I could have had the exact same job done in the US for the same price and been in the comfort of my own home instead of a hotel after surgery as well as been able to go to follow up appointments. I am very frustrated with the surgeon and the facility for lying to me and getting me down there and then telling me they couldn't do what was quoted to me.

Hospital Hispano Americano is right next to the US border and is located in the medical district. It is the only hospital in Mexicali certified by the General Health Council. I met with Alexandra Vizcarra, the main international patient coordinator, who gave me a tour of the hospital. All of their prices are packages, which include transportation from hotel to hospital, nights at the hospital or even nights at a 5 star hotel depending on the surgery. They have been dealing with international patients for over 30 years.
